Bridging Generations: Celebrating Evolutionary Science
"We are related not only to every living thing, but also to everything that has ever lived on Earth."
All living organisms, past and present, are linked through a common evolutionary history. From the smallest microorganisms to the largest mammals, every being is interconnected and the actions of one species can have far-reaching effects on the entire planet. Thus, evolution is the central organizing principle that biologists use to understand the world.
The similarities among living things, the diversity of life, and many features of the physical world we inhabit, are some features which evolution addresses. Explanations of these phenomena in terms of evolution draw on results from physics, chemistry, geology, many areas of biology, and other sciences. To teach biology without explaining evolution deprives students of a powerful concept that brings great order and coherence to our understanding of life.
ISEB5 aims to encourage the understanding of evolution and to propagate the beauty and essentiality of evolution in understanding the world around us amongst both the biologists and the masses. Viewing everything in the light of evolution will be crucial in decoding fundamental problems in biology with new technologies and methods.
